There are always gifts.
You just gotta stay open and know where to look.
This week’s gift was an art book.
I flopped it open to any page and there was Winslow Homer, starin’ back at me, reminding me how desperate things have been lately and how I, too, feel like I’m waiting to be rescued.

It’s a detail from a painting by Russian artist Ilya Repin titled “Barge Haulers on the Volga” (1870–73, oil-on-canvas).
What I found interesting was this young pup caught in the middle:

And that’s Repin’s point: Young Pup will soon be Old Dog, still doing the same goddamn serf-slave wage labor for the rest of his motherfucking life.
