Last Night the Wind Was Sleepwalking Everywhere

This old body could do nothing but listen.
Lying awake, listening.
Fading in and out of sleep, listening. Because last night the wind was stalking the neighborhood, like a ranting sleepwalker.

Once I awoke and thought, “Thank God it’s gone,” all was seemingly silent outside … but it was only just down the block, bellowing into another cold back alley.
Minutes later it was back, stumbling through my bedroom window like a drunken bird.
I think the wind last night was confused and angry.
It didn’t know where to go, so I had to sit up and listen to its complaints.
